Kuwait Stock Exchange
Kuwaiti investors were introduced to trading in stocks with the creation of the National Bank of Kuwait in 1952 as the first Kuwaiti shareholding company. In the following decades, the Government of Kuwait issued a number of laws and rules to regulate stock-trading activities, culminating in August 1983 with the issuance of an Amiri Decree establishing Kuwait Stock Exchange. The exchange was mandated to organise trading activities and to regulate them, which it continued to do until its regulatory responsibilities were transferred to the Capital Markets Authority, which was established by a new law which, after being signed by the Amir, came into force on 28th February 2010.

The idea to establish the Union emerged from the desire to cure the big gap in the investment market in Kuwait. This is through revising the economic legislations and introducing suggestions to make them fit the different working investment companies in the market, which play a great and effective role in developing Kuwaiti economy and so investment in Kuwait and creating new investment tools to make Kuwait a prestigious financial center among countries in the region. Moreover, Union works on a lot of other tasks.

Kuwait Investment Authority
The Kuwait Investment Office (KIO) is the branch office of KIA in the City of London and manages funds on behalf of the State of Kuwait. It was set up in 1953 with the aim of investing surplus oil revenues to reduce the reliance of Kuwait on its finite oil resource.
The State of Kuwait transfers 10% of oil revenue into the Reserve for Future Generations each year, which is the overall responsibility KIA in Kuwait, the parent organization of the KIO.
